I have been flying
helis for several years now and currently fly a Revolution
90, JR 50 IMZ, and Logo 14 Carbon. My newest addition to the
stable is a MaxiR SE. I debated over the
past few years about getting a micro heli. Several friends
fly the Hornet but I didn't like all its CA used to hold it
together or the constant 'fiddle' to get it to fly
reasonably well. Lots of micros seem to fly OK but not what
I would call great. I like a heli that is solid, easy to
fix, stable and reliable. I also like to get it with all the
bling required up front rather than spend a fortune
upgrading a cheap machine. After lots of research I finally
settled on the MaxiR SE edition. It has all the bling you
could want right out of the box and from forum comments; I
expected it to fly reasonable well. When people describe
micros flying, I often see comments like "it flies very
well, for a micro" so I didn't expect anything amazing but
just OK. My first impression of
the MaxiR community is that the dealers are very helpful. I
found lots of useful information from threads and other
online resources. The buying experience was GREAT. I
purchased my SE and all the parts from Glen and I have to
say he has provided the best service and support I have ever
seen from a vendor. I recommend that anyone looking for
electronics or the MaxiR should put Glen http://www.littleheli.com/
at the top of the list. The build was as many
have described as a 'builders' kit. Let me say that I do NOT
fit into that category. I don't get along well with tools
and usually, if something mechanical can go wrong, it will
go very wrong. I was expecting to
have problems with this tiny kit and it was challenging for
me but not anywhere near as bad as I expected it to be. I
wouldn't recommend the kit for a beginner but with a little
experience, anyone should be fine if you pay attention to
the build guides and hints on MaxiRMania: http://www.maxir.logoheli.com/links.htm When I finally
finished construction I was amazed at how refined and solid
it looked. Not like some other tacky looking midget
machines. It was a joy just to look at! Now it was time to try
flying. As this was my first micro, I was very rough for the
first few flights but after a short time, the machine
stopped wandering off and a controlled hover was no problem.
Moving into forward flight was my first major surprise. I
have heard people say that the MaxiR flies well but I never
expected anything even close to the performance if this tiny
marvel. After a few circuits and figure eights, it was time
to try a loop. Simply amazing! The machine tracks well and
has lots of power. Maybe tomorrow I'll try some inverted
stuff if I get the nerve. The last few days of flying my
MaxiR I find that I have a permanent smile. This is so much
FUN. I love my Logo 14 but this little thing is a joy to fly
and knowing it won't cost two arms and a leg to fix is a big
bonus. I find its relaxing and when you consider the cost,
definitely the most fun for a buck I have ever had flying
helis. My only regret about
the MaxiR is that I didn't get one sooner. acc AT
