I thought long and hard about what heli I
was going to buy next, the Maxir seemed to be a little more
money than some but in the long run it may work out to be
one of the cheaper heli's I'll own. So far the price of
spare parts is very good, each piece on the heli has a part
number so you never have to buy a bag of parts to get the
one you need, cost of batteries, motors and ESC's is cheaper
than a T-Rex, Shogun, MX400 etc and the Maxir will out
perform most of those heli's. I will agree that the Maxir SE is a
"builders kit". Building it required some thought, patience
and time to get it right but I would not say it is an
advanced builders kit either, it can be done by anyone
willing to put in the time. Lots of info on the net and a
friendly bunch of guys like Glen and Pete out there willing
to help. The Maxir SE setup with the included
carbon fiber main blades and paddles is ballistic, very 3D.
When I ordered mine I also ordered the
stock plastic main blades Y0666, basic paddles Y0323, flybar
for stock paddles Y306 and set it up with them instead of
the carbon fiber parts. This gave me some piece of mind on
the first few test hops and hovers, and tames the Maxir SE a
fair bit as the plastic blades and paddles are much heavier.
With this setup the SE flies very well, very stable in a
hover and very responsive in flight. This made my first
flights very comforting, the Maxir just goes where you point
it and does what you ask. I have flown it in 20km/h with
strong gusting winds and the Maxir flew great. Fly it with the included carbon fiber
blades and paddles and WOW it really comes to life. Not much
of a hovering machine in this setup but for loops, rolls,
inverted etc you can't beat this heli. I have no regrets about buying my Maxir
SE, the only problem is now I want another.......maybe blue
this time :) ncoulo AT
